Tales of Gordon's glittering career
by
Ky Capel
Dorchester Town FC enjoyed a “cracking night” in the company of World Cup winner Gordon Banks.
More than 100 people were present at the Prince’s Marquee to hear tales from the goalkeeper’s glittering career, including the infamous save from Pele at the 1970 World Cup.
Club director Jon Dickinson said: “It was a cracking night. There were more than 100 people and everyone had a good time.
“Gordon Banks was very entertaining and he spoke quite frankly about his times with England.
“He was also happy to have pictures taken, as well as sign books etc. It was a thoroughly good night and, with Jimmy Greaves and Nobby Stiles to come in April, long may they continue.”
Dickinson also paid tribute to comedian John Stiles, son of another member of the triumphant 1966 team, Nobby.
He added: “He had everyone in stitches.”
Tottenham and Chelsea legend Jimmy Greaves will visit the county town on Thursday, April 1, for a sportsman’s dinner that costs £50 a ticket, which includes a three-course meal, or £475 for a table of 10.
Tickets for an evening with former Manchester United ace Nobby Stiles, which takes place on Friday, April 23, cost £15 and include a hot buffet on arrival. A comedian will be present at both events.
