Kyle: We must buck up
by
Ky Capel
Kyle Critchell believes that a single goal will lead to an upturn
in fortunes for a somewhat bruised Dorchester Town side.
The versatile midfielder, who can also operate in defence, has
enjoyed just one win in black and white, having joined the Magpies
from arch-rivals Weymouth at the end of November.
Critchell played in both of the festive fixtures against the Terras
and was as disappointed as anyone to see the Boxing Day clash end
goalless and the New Year’s Day showdown finish 2-0 in favour
of his former employers.
He said: “Each of the lads expect more from themselves and
we did not do ourselves any justice over the Christmas period.
“It was disappointing to lose on New Year’s Day because
I used to play for them and they are our rivals. Nobody can say
they played particularly well in that game, me included.
“I don’t like to lose any game and you have to strive
to better yourself all the time. The fact we lost to Weymouth makes
it even more demoralising.
“All I can do is say sorry to the fans because our performance
in the first 45 minutes was unacceptable.
“Weymouth weren’t in the game in the second half and
that’s when we needed to take our chances. The lads were
absolutely gutted afterwards.
“Every one of us needs to buck up our ideas otherwise Ashley
Vickers will look to get rid of us.”
Critchell though, is sure he and his fellow team-mates can rediscover
the form that saw them beat Hampton & Richmond 2-1 on his debut
almost five weeks ago.
He added: “We’ve got good individual players but it
just hasn’t been clicking it seems. With the likes of Nick
Crittenden coming back though, I’m sure it will take just
one goal to change the dynamics of the team. Something’s
got to give sooner or later.”
And Critchell is keen to deliver a victory this Saturday, when
sixth-placed Thurrock come to town.
He said: “It’s going to be a hard-fought game. The
pitch isn’t the greatest at the moment so we need to fight
hard and play when we get the chance.”
