Josh aims to stay at the Avenue
The former Weymouth striker escaped the uncertainty of the Wessex Stadium last weekend, as part of a cost-cutting measure, and celebrated his move to Dorchester with a debut goal in Tuesday night’s 2-1 victory over Hampton & Richmond. However, just 11 minutes after scoring the opener in midweek, the county town hit man pulled up with a hamstring injury and saw his dream debut turn into a mini-nightmare. Llewellyn, who will miss this afternoon’s match at Braintree (3pm), is now eager to make a swift return in a bid to win a more permanent deal with the Magpies. He said: “I’m playing for a contract for next season so it’s important for me to get back fit, get back into the team and score goals. “My debut was a bit mixed and could have gone better but that’s how it goes in football sometimes. “I know I have not scored as many as I would have liked this season so it was good to get off the mark straight away. “It was good to get the goal but it was more important that we got the win and have now climbed up the table. “The injury is not as bad as I first thought so I should only be out for about 10 to 21 days.” Llewellyn only joined the Terras in October, scoring four goals in 21 appearances, but admits he was sad to leave. He added: “Things are a bit more stable at Dorchester and that’s nice but I have always said that I enjoyed my spell at Weymouth, through both the good times and the bad times, and I’m grateful for the chance they gave me. It’s an excellent club and I wish them all the best. “You try to find a balance between being loyal and making sure you look after yourself. I would like to think that all the guys who have left Weymouth in the last week were very loyal and gave their all – I know I definitely did. “It’s a shame it had to end the way it did but that’s how things go. “My main focus now is getting myself fit again so I can try and get back into the team and score goals. “We’ve got good strikers here though, so it’s not going to be easy.” Of his new boss Ashley Vickers, the 22-year-old said: “There’s a really good set-up at Dorchester and Ashley is a really nice guy. “He’s a good manager as well and I was really pleased when I got the phone call from him asking me to join. It all happened very quickly but I’m glad it did.”
