Online Player of the Year - voting starts today!
by
James Tizzard
As we enter the final month of the 2009-10 season,
it's time for us to reflect
on the
past nine months and ponder which players deserve the plaudits
- and most importantly, which one individual will end the campaign
as
Online Player of the Year.
And so begins the annual tradition of intense paranoia, arguments
amongst fans, friends and family, and a voting scheme so ridiculously
far-fetched yet remarkably addictive...
Tomorrow sees the start of this year's Online Player of the Year
poll, and an opportunity for 40 players - every single one that's
made an appearance in a Dorchester shirt this season, however brief
- to begin the four-week battle for this year's honour.
The format for this year's contest remains mostly the same from
previous campaigns - five heats will be followed by seven elimination
rounds,
culminating in a grand final for the remaining three players to
fight it out for the trophy.
Before we start the heats, however, we have a qualifying round
today, in which the six youth team players
that made
the step
up and
featured
in the
Magpies'
Dorset
Senior
Cup
campaign get a chance to join the 34 players with league, FA Cup
and FA Trophy appearances in the heats. Only one can make it through
the qualifier, and it'll
be down to you who goes through.
So who will be your champion? Last year's winner Kevin Hill has
impressed again this campaign but was sidelined for a good deal
of it - has he done enough to regain his crown or will you pick
someone else?
Mark Jermyn has made the most appearances this season, and he
remains the only person to have ever won the title on more than
one occasion - could
he
make
it
a third
victory,
or
perhaps you'll opt for top goalscorer Matt Groves who himself will
be looking to win the trophy for a second time? Maybe a new face,
such as Kyle Critchell, Steve Devlin or Neil Martin
will get
your
vote? It's all down to what YOU decide.
