Hearn: Legal issues are settled

Chairman Shaun Hearn has announced that the ongoing legal issues
with former owner Eddie Mitchell have finally come to an end.
Dorchester Town sought legal action against the current chairman
of AFC Bournemouth earlier this season following a dispute over
club funds.
But after a lengthy wait – three-and-a-half months after
Hearn first revealed the situation – the Magpies have come
out on top in the form of an out-of-court settlement.
And Hearn, who did not wish to divulge the particulars of the
dispute or the settlement, is delighted to “draw a line” under
the whole episode.
He said: “Everything’s been sorted. It was all done
mutually and amicably, everything is back on course and we can
just move on and hit the ground running next season.
“It’s nice to draw a line under it all and it’s
a shame it took so long to sort out – it was a bit like a
game of chess in the end.
“We still have to live within our means but now that we
have sorted out the management side of things as well, and are
getting players signed to contracts, we can look forward to next
season.”
Mitchell stepped down as majority shareholder at the Avenue Stadium
last June following his takeover of the Cherries.
However, after handing control of the Magpies to his two sons
Tom and Josh, the property developer had to find a new owner of
the county town outfit in order to comply with FA regulations.
Poole-based estate agent Tony Newman was set to assume the role
but the FA were believed to have taken a dim view of his close
connections with Mitchell senior.
Up stepped current chairman Hearn and after a 20-month absence
from the Magpies’ boardroom, he completed a takeover of the
club in September.
However, following the switch of ownership, there were disputes
over the financial state of the club.
The case had been recorded at the High Court in Bristol but the
matter has now been resolved out of court.
Mitchell is happy to see an end to the action and has urged the
town to get behind Hearn and the Magpies.
He said: “Shaun is a local guy who has put his neck on the
line and he needs the support of Dorchester.
“There was never anything between the two of us, the legal
issues were simply business-related and I hope Shaun succeeds at
the club.
“We at Bournemouth want to help and we’ll look to
organise a friendly match in pre-season because I’ve still
got a soft spot for the club.”
