Guyett is named new skipper
by
Ky Capel
New signing Scott Guyett has been handed the Dorchester Town captaincy
following the release of Kevin Hill.
Guyett joined the Magpies on Wednesday night – penning non-contract
terms – and in order to “balance the books” boss
Ashley Vickers has sacrificed former skipper Hill.
However, the 38-year-old admits he did so with a heavy heart. Vickers
told Echosport: “I had to balance the books and Scott has
come in for less money.
“Kev has conducted himself excellently throughout, we’ve
given him some money to go, his contract will be cancelled in the
next day or so and we wish him all the best as he’s been a
superb servant to the club.
“Unfortunately he’s found working and playing quite
difficult, especially having been a full-time player for so long,
and I think the travelling hasn’t helped either.
“I think he already has a few offers from clubs closer to
home.”
As a result of the Devon-based defender’s departure, ex-Yeovil
Town and AFC Bournemouth centre-half Guyett will don the armband
for his debut at Chelmsford City tomorrow (3pm).
On the 34-year-old’s arrival, Vick-ers, who continues to
chase an unidentified striker, added: “I’m really pleased
to get him on board. He’s a player I’ve long admired,
he has undoubted pedigree and he’s hungry to do well. He will
also add quality to the side.
“He’s enrolled on a university course and is looking
at life after football, so the move suits both of us. He had a few
clubs sniffing around him so I’m delighted he has come to
us. He hasn’t got a magic wand but will be an excellent signing
for us. Scott’s a winner and will take on the armband. He’ll
lead the team tomorrow and will organise the defence.
“I’m sure Nathan Walker and the rest of the defenders
at the club will become better players having Scott around.”
Asked how the move came about, the Magpies’ chief said: “I
saw him at a motorway service station earlier in the summer, he
said he had left Bournemouth so I told him that if he ever wanted
to go part-time then he should give us a thought.
“Therefore, that chance meeting has worked in our favour.”
Dorchester visit Chelmsford, on national non-League day, hoping
to build on back-to-back draws in Blue Square Bet South.
However, the rock-bottom Magpies face a City side currently boasting
a 100 per cent home record, and yet to concede at Melbourne Park.
Vickers added: “It’s going to be a tough game. They’ve
got some quality players but we’re a match for anyone and
we go there in a positive frame of mind.”
Kyle Critchell (hip) is expected to regain full fitness but Gary
Bowles (ankle) remains sidelined through injury while Jamie Gleeson
continues his one-month ban.
