Vickers in Sole catch
by

Hot-shot striker Giuseppe Sole has agreed to join Dorchester Town
on a three-month loan.
Magpies’ boss Ashley Vickers had been on the trail of a Blue
Square Bet Premier striker for the last two weeks. And his persistence
has finally paid off with the capture of Newport County’s
Sole.
Former Exile Vickers is now hopeful that the 22-year-old can play
a huge role in hauling the Magpies off the foot of Blue Square Bet
South, starting with Saturday’s visit of Ebbsfleet United.
He said: “We’ve got him for three months and he can
also play in the FA Cup for us. We’re only paying part of
his wages and Newport manager Dean Holdsworth has done us a huge
favour, which I won’t forget and one day hope to repay.
“Giuseppe will be a great acquisition, he’s made a
commitment to train with us as well, and I’m really excited
about welcoming him to the club.
“We’ve been creating a lot of chances but not taking
them, so hopefully Giuseppe will help with that.
“Goalscoring is obviously a huge part of the game and goalscorers
are often the difference between teams at the top of the table and
those at the bottom.
“Bringing him in is a big bonus and if he starts ticking
it can rub off on everyone else.
“I’m really pleased to get him, let’s hope it’s
a fruitful move for both Giuseppe and the club.”
Vickers also suggested there could be further movement this week
– both in and out of the club.
The county town chief, who saw Neil Martin and James Coutts both
pick injuries at the weekend, added: “We are looking at getting
another loanee in possibly but we have to make sure we balance the
books.”
Asked if a striker would have to make way following the arrival
of Sole, Vickers replied: “Possibly – we’ll see.
We have lost a midfielder in James, and Dave Allen can also play
in midfield, so we will see how we go.”
Following the double injury blow, club secretary and vice-chairman
David Martin confirmed the Magpies could recall Jake Smeeton and
Harry Monta-cute from their respective one-month loan spells, but
not Harry Nodwell.
Meanwhile, Vickers has rubbished claims of a divide within the
Magpies’ dressing room.
He said: “It’s a load of nonsense and couldn’t
be further from the truth. I have never seen such a united set of
lads and I’m sure all the boys would agree with that.”
