Mixed Magpies come back at the double to grab
a win
by
Terry Spracklen
Dorchester's mixed team of trialists and first
team squad members twice came from behind to record victory in last
night's final pre-season friendly against Phil Simkin's Wessex League
side at The County Ground.
The Magpies fielded four new faces. In goal was Scotsman Ryszard
Gorski who has Highland League experience with Huntly. Starting
up front was Mark Jones, recently released by Cardiff City, but
perhaps catching the eye most were Portugese duo Hardy Pinto and
Ivan Forbes who played last season at Middlesex Premier side London
Tigers and have recently been on trial at Yeovil Town.
Dorchester enjoyed the opening 15 minutes with James Rowe and Pinto
both going close. But it was the home side who took the lead with
their first attack when Steve Gilbert, one of four former Magpies
in the Hamworthy side, beat Gorski with a looping header.
Within a minute, the visitors were level as Forbes delivered the
perfect through ball for Pinto who steered the ball past the advancing
keeper Gary Smart.
Back came Simkin's men when Hubbard supplied another pinpoint centre
for Gilbert to nod down to another ex-Magpie, Nathan Walker, who
supplied the finishing touch.
After a quiet start to the second half Sean Smith equalised on
68 minutes and with 20 minutes left, substitute Jones Awuah fired
Dorchester ahead for the first time within a minute of coming on.
