Hoorah for Henry

Dorset Echoby Terry Spracklen

Dorchester extended their unbeaten away record with a well-earned victory at Gander Green Lane.

Darren Behcet resumed goalkeeping duties, Roy O'Brien returned at right back and Nathan Peprah-Annan started the match playing in front of the defence in O'Brien's usual role.

One familiar name missing from the team-sheet though was that of Magpies stalwart Matt Groves fuelling rumours that the former Portsmouth striker is about to sign for Blue Square South rivals, Lewes.

Sutton's Nicky Greene produced the first shot of the match when Darren Behcet beat down his 25-yard drive.

But it was the Magpies who opened the scoring in the sixth minute from their first meaningful foray into the U's half.

Charlie Henry siezed possession on the halfway line before haring up the right flank and firing over a low cross which was nudged on by former Sutton striker Jones Awuah for Jon Docker to tap home at the far post.

Dorchester's travelling fans were celebrating again in the 14th minute when O'Brien's ball from defence picked out Henry, who surged into the Sutton penalty area before pulling wide of the defence and drilling an angled shot into the far top corner.

The Magpies had only scored two league goals since their 3-0 opening day win at St Albans City but with two more already added to their tally, Shaun Brooks' men were looking hungry for more.

Another O'Brien clearance found Awuah who laid off for Henry but his low effort was smothered by the diving Phil Wilson in the U's goal.

Sutton went close in the 16th minute but Behcet pushed aside a fierce drive from Craig Tanner before Warren McBean lashed the rebound over the crossbar.

But McBean was not to be denied for long, as in the 24th minute Dorchester failed to clear Asher Hudson's ball into the box, enabling McBean to steer past Behcet from six yards.

Back came Dorchester and when a Docker shot was blocked, the loose ball fell to Henry whose shot was tipped over by Wilson, who then clawed aside a long-range effort from Docker before gathering safely at the second attempt.

Behcet made a similar save at the other end to deny Greene while John Scarborough looped a header over.

The Magpies very nearly restored their two-goal advantage in first half stoppage time but Wilson pulled off a double save to keep out shots from Docker and Awuah.

Brooks was forced to make two changes at half-time with Mark Jermyn replacing Jake Smeaton at left back and Gary Bowles making way for Mark Robinson. Peprah-Annan dropped back to partner Alex Browne at the heart of defence.

The Magpies adopted a more cautious approach after the break but nevertheless created the first chance, Wilson though, was equal to Awuah's effort.

Behcet was called into action in the 63rd minute when he dived bravely at the feet of Greene, and a minute later the Dorchester stopper saved from Craig Tanner, who was then only inches away from grabbing an equaliser with a low shot from the edge of the box.

Substitute Ivan Forbes had a shot deflected wide and from Docker's corner, the ball was only cleared to the edge of the area where Henry's drilled attempt flashed wide despite the best efforts of Awuah to get a telling touch at the far post.

Portuguese Forbes then burst through unchallenged before firing wide, while after an impressive drive forward at the other end, McBean fired high over the crossbar.

The four minutes of stoppage time proved action-packed. First Docker beat the offside trap to set up Awuah but Wilson saved his bundled effort.

Then at the other end, Tanner fired over after Peprah-Anna's headed clearance fell invitingly to him.

But the visiting Magpies made the three points safe with a well-worked third goal when Docker headed into the path of Awuah who quickly played in Henry to slot home his second goal of the afternoon after rounding Wilson.
