Roy's reunion

Dorset Echoby Ky Capel

Roy O’Brien admits it will be a “surreal” moment tonight when he sees his former manager Gary Johnson in the opposite dugout.

Dorchester’s boss played under Johnson while at Yeovil Town but will go head-to-head with his old gaffer this evening as Bristol City visit the Jewson Stadium (7.45pm) in a pre-season friendly.

O’Brien, who saw a host of county town trialists win 3-0 at Hamworthy United last night, said: “It’ll be good seeing Gary there but it will be strange and somewhat surreal to be competing against him.

“I always talk to him and he always offers his advice, which can only help me.”

City will tonight field a different line-up to the one that defeated Weymouth 4-0 last night, including new signings Paul Hartley and Lewin Nyatanga.

Midfielder Hartley is a Scotland international whose previous clubs include Celtic and Hearts while defender Nyatanga, formerly of Derby County, has 27 caps for Wales.

O’Brien is looking forward to seeing his men take on the Championship outfit. He added: “Hopefully it’ll be a good game. I’m not expecting us to win it but I would like to see us put in a good performance.

“The trialists put in a good shift at Hamworthy so I’ll be looking for tonight’s team to play anything between 75 to 90 minutes.”

An own goal gave Dorchester the lead at the County Ground before trialist striker Jules, an unused substitute in the 3-2 defeat to Eastbourne on Saturday, notched a brace.

Former Yeovil Town Youth midfielder Harry Montacute saw red for an apparent stamp while a new trialist to feature was ex-Magpie Larbi Mekchiche.

Of last night’s win, the Magpies’ chief said: “The trialists did well and deserved their win, as well as the clean sheet. The first was an own goal but after that Jules scored two very well taken goals.

“We will keep the group of trialists together and hopefully see more of them.”
