Cherries trial for Bowles
by
Ky Capel
Dorchester defender Gary Bowles is set to undergo a trial at AFC
Bournemouth.
The 22-year-old will appear for the League One Cherries tomorrow
night in their pre-season friendly at Winchester City.
And the former Yeovil Town man does so with the blessing of Magpies’
boss Ashley Vickers.
The latter, who saw his men held to a 1-1 draw at Bashley last
night, said: “Bournemouth are having a look at him and we’ll
see what comes of it.
“He is a talented lad with huge potential – like a
lot of others in our squad. However, you have to deliver on that
potential and Gary is fully aware of that.
“Hopefully a decision will be made quickly as we want to
crack on and we do not want him there too long.
“We will support him in what he does as we always want to
see players progress. This is an opportunity and I hope he takes
it.
“If something does happen then hopefully it will benefit
us financially as he is contracted to the club.”
At the Recreation Ground last night, the Magpies fell behind to
a Matt Vokes effort.
But the scores were level going into the break as Ryan Moss restored
parity, heading home from a Steve Devlin corner.
The visitors then spurned two glorious opportunities to regain
their advantage – Devlin and Chris Flood both missing from
the spot.
And 1-1 was how it stayed. Vickers added: “It was a good
workout and another good exercise.
“We also had six lads aged 20 and under on the pitch in the
second half in Aston Butcher, Lloyd Beals, Harrison Bell, George
Kimber, Ben Dickenson and Rico Wilson.”
The Magpies visit Poole Town tomorrow night (7.45pm) before playing
host to Thurrock on Saturday (3pm). |
