Flood strikes again for Dorchester
by
Ky Capel
Chris Flood made it two goals in as many games as Dorchester Town
earned another impressive result against Npower League One opposition.
Last night’s 1-1 draw with Exeter City may not have been
as emphatic as Wednesday’s 4-1 win over a Yeovil Town XI,
but the Magpies produced another encouraging display against higher-ranked
visitors.
Boss Ashley Vickers said: “It was a real test for us as teams
like Exeter try and play, and it was a great workout for us because
if we press like that in our league we will get the ball back a
lot easier.
“I thought we more than held our own and there were some
really positive performances again. I’m really pleased with
how things are going as there is a great feel around the club.”
Vickers also had a first viewing of former Weymouth defender Matt
Oldring and ex-Southampton Academy full-back Ben Martin.
Discussing the two trialists, the 40-year-old added: “I thought
Matt did everything right. I don’t know too much about Ben
but they will both play at Bridport (today, 4pm) and the opportunity
is there.”
Once again the Magpies were unfazed by their League One opponents
and again they took the lead.
Skipper Mark Jermyn won possession in the middle of the park before
playing in Flood, who then rolled the ball under the advancing Artur
Krysiak with 20 minutes played.
The Grecians almost found an immediate leveller but Guillem Bauza’s
header was well saved by home keeper Simon Evans.
The second half began with just two players remaining from the
22 that started proceedings. And the first opportunity fell to the
visitors – Daniel Nardiello thwarted by Dan Thomas at the
near post.
The same man was not to be denied a second time and he equalised
in the 69th minute after gathering a sublime pass from James Dunne.
Exeter’s Tom Nichols and Dorchester’s Ryan Moss and
Gary Bowles all went close to winning the game in the final five
minutes but it ended all square. |
