Ashley is a tall and vastly experienced defender
and was manager Roy O'Brien's first signing in March 2009 when
he was appointed assistant manager.
Having started his career as a trainee with Sheffield United,
Ashley played non-League football for a number of clubs before
signing for Peterborough United in 1997. He was, however, only
to make one appearance for the Posh and in August 1998 Ashley returned
to the non-League game with St Albans City.
In March 2000 he was signed by Garry Hill for Dagenham & Redbridge,
who played under at Heybridge Swifts, and then later rejoined Hill
for a third time with Conference rivals Weymouth.
Following Roy O'Brien's dismissal in November 2009, Ashley is
currently caretaker manager of the Magpies.
