Post-match reaction from first team coach Jason Brookes speaking after our 1-3 win over Bideford last night to make it six league wins in a row:
“Really pleased with the three points tonight. As you say, it's six league wins in a row now, and I think that confidence and momentum that we're building with that is vitally important at this early stage of the season, so we are delighted with that.
"It's a tough game to sum up really - it's maybe not one for the neutral, and any time you go away from home on a Tuesday night and it's challenging conditions and a strong physical, direct approach from the opponents that we got from Bideford tonight, it is even more pleasing for a team like us, where we knew we'd have to adapt our approach, we'd have to find a different way to win, and I think we did that really well tonight. I think we came under some periods of time, 10, 15 minutes here and there, where we had to sit in a bit deeper than we'd like, defend our box, and try and find other ways to create our opportunities.
“I think the goals, the timing of the goals as well, was really good. If you could choose a time for the goals to go in, I think they were the perfect times. The one right on half-time probably took the wind out of their sails a little bit when they were having a 10 minute spell, and we were having to dig deep at that point, so that was really good for us going in at half-time.
“One really pleasing thing for me is the way this squad is coming together, and we've got a really nice balance across the group. We've got a heavy fixture schedule coming up in October, and the games do really come thick and fast, so the fact that everybody is working the way they are towards the same goal, and not just the lads that are starting at the moment, but the ones that are coming off the bench, and we have real belief in this whole group. That's such a pleasing factor for us at the moment.
“To get another win this week following up from Saturday was really pleasing, and hopefully we can get back to work this week and look forward to Saturday's game against Swindon and go again.”
