Post-match reaction from boss Glenn Howes after our 0-1 league win away at Swindon Supermarine this afternoon to make it seven league wins on the bounce and send the Magpies top of the table:
Supermarine were unbelievably tough opponents and asked a number of questions with their direct approach. Ironically, it’s the most our box has been bombarded from all angles, but I’m so pleased on how we defended and repelled their attacks.
Unfortunately we missed a couple of chances to put the game to bed which would have eased the pressure towards the end, but the lads showed great character and resilience.
We felt a natural sense of relief at the final whistle, and then there is an overriding emotion of jubilation to keep a clean sheet and ultimately achieve the 3 points which we set out to do.
Ilya has bided his time and he was extremely lively when he came on last week and very unfortunate not to open his account then. Today he cashed in and got what all his hard work deserved. It was a great ball forward from Ieuan which enabled Matty, Ethan and Ilya to combine well with the latter finishing off a superb move in a beautifully composed manner.
