The Magpies contiuned their encouraging unbeaten start to pre-season with a 3-1 home win over East Cowes Vics at The Avenue yesterday afternoon.
First half goals from Tom Purrington, Matty Burrows and Freddie Beale gave manager Glenn Howes a second home victory of the summer as preparations for the new campaign continued.
Ollie Haste captained the side, while Harvey-Joe Bertrand, Purrington, Beale and Fin Murray all returned to the starting XI for valuable minutes, and new summer signing Tega Agberhiere was named on the bench for the first time.
The East Cowes Vics side also included a late switch with reserve Magpies keeper Tom Percival-Smith lining up for the opposition.
Dorchester made a bright start and created the first chance after 10 minutes when Bertrand's cross found Burrows in the box, but his effort was well tipped away by the goalkeeper.
Beale then continued his fine assist record in pre-season, swinging in an inviting cross from the right which was met by Purrington to head home the opening goal after 25 minutes.
Less than 10 minutes later, the home side doubled their advantage with Burrows racing onto a loose ball and slotting home for his third Magpies goal in pre-season.
Into stoppage time, Beale nearly added a third, cutting in from the right wing and curling an effort narrowly wide just past the far post.
Deep into first-half stoppage time, Burrows turned provider as his cross from the left picked out Beale at the back post, and the winger fired home his third goal in as many games with the final kick of the half.
Into the second half, a powerful run by captain Haste saw the ball finally find Beale, only for the keeper to save his strike.
The Isle of Wight side reduced the deficit, pulling a goal back through Jordan Chapman just before the hour mark.
Beale then came within inches of restoring the three-goal lead, when his free-kick from the edge of the area was tipped around the post by the goalkeeper.
A flurry of changes followed in the heat as Howes rotated his squad, introducing several trialists alongside DJ Bowmaster, Matt Buse and debutant Tega Agberhiere, who made his first appearance in a black and white shirt.
Late on, Trialist #15 forced another fine save with a powerful strike before Beale was denied once again by the away goalkeeper.
Next up for the Magpies is a trip to Brockenhurst on Tuesday evening (7:45pm).
