Joe joined the Magpies in September 2025 from Northern Irish Premier League side Larne, where he featured in the Europa Conference League for the Ulster side. A former AFC Bournemouth academy player, Besant spent two years in Portugal with spells at C.D. Nacional, C.C. Mafra and FC Alverca, and also has Southern League Premier experience playing for Bracknell Town.
